Site slowed down considerably in the last 3 days or so ?

Coincidentally, our hosting provider upgraded the operating system on the server running NGA... three days ago.

The slowness is, frankly, a little weird -- the load averages are quite low and there isn't much memory pressure.

For now, I've tried a couple of quick tweaks that should help (and not break things). We'll see if it helps.
