So as much as I enjoy all of you, what's the plan for getting more incoming traffic?

I keeping hearing about user content and articles and such, but I've seen other places with that and they never really grew all that much. It's also very difficult to just start creating material and have it suddenly get you traffic. There has to be advertising or some well known draw for it. SCG has the store and MTG has the fact they are the official website, etc.

Not that I'm advertising spamming random sites, but it's always a good problem to have too much traffic.

the DotP forum seems to be getting a lot of traffic its got like 1500 posts in a week and half

i think we are growing at a decent rate at least for now just by being a good forum and word of mouth should be pretty good until we get additional site features up outside the forum.

Are you sure we should have more traffic? Can they handle the people we have now that are always causing trouble?

I think with more traffic they will be more willing to actually ban people.

I've been banned twice. They have no problem banning people willy-nilly.

The original question is worth answering. Bun? Fire? Thoughts on this?

First of all, I would submit that we don't ban people "willy nilly" at all. You might disagree with a specific mod action (and you are welcome to appeal them,) but a minority of reported issues are given soft warnings (either as PMs or as mod comments in a thread,) a minority of those are even brought up for discussion in the staff area, and finally only a small minority of those few are given actual hard warnings. I don't have statistics handy on individual users, so ymmv, but in total fewer than 30 official warnings have been handed out, or less than one per thousand posts so far. I'm reasonably satisfied with that ratio.

The original question does bear answering. We will potentially advertise elsewhere in the future. We still want to have a blog and wiki and perhaps an image storing section for user created content at some point. But we also don't want to implement anything until we are stable enough to handle the increased workload. We are getting there, and we have plans for expanding, but I would rather be the tortoise than the hare.

wow that means I have more than 10% of all warnings issued on the forum

I'm flattered

its not really interesting now that the gap between me and squinty eyes has widened so much

no one will ever overtake me unless until I am permabanned

The bans don't happen frequently enough
Posters get away with things blatantly against the rules
Or maybe the bans just need to be longer

Anyways. Hares are way better than turtles
Hurry up already. I don't even know what you're waiting on
I think wiki is nice but that other site already has a comprehensive one
We would be way behind and take years to catch up
Who's maintaining the blog? That's a ton of work
I know I wouldn't want to unless I got paid to.

Post subject:  Re: Incoming Traffic

It isn't just a matter of "we want to wait on _____ before we implement it." It is more a matter of there being a necessary amount of work to do on the things we already have, both upkeep like modding and revisions like rewriting the code of conduct and tweaking the site settings, both cosmetic and functional, and to implement more things will mean a reduction in the attention those issues get.
