I wonder if we could use a larger video game population to springboard an actual game design board. That'd be pretty sweet.

I'd be guessing that getting that rolling would involve a lot of legwork talking to developers of mods and other Workshop items from Steam's user base and see if they'd like a creative board here to talk on. Unfortunately, Steam already provides forums, so it might be really hard to get them to come over.

Well, we do have the Wiki as a potential selling point, and we also might be able to attract people who are dissatisfied with the Steam forums... what's the zeitgeist over there like?

To be honest, no idea. I don't deal with the Steam Forums much. I did use it trade on it, but most of the people are looking to screw you out of your games and complain if you bought them on sale when they did the same. So, my experience is they're jerks, but that's only one aspect of the forums, so I dunno.

Rules: there aren't really any, but I'll kick someone if they start being an ***hole.
Officialness: Whether or not this group is officially endorsed by NGA would be Admin's decision, not mine. Honestly, I don't really mind either way.
Activities: so far the 3 things we've done so far are to have a tf2 even with like 3-4 people (not much excitement there, maybe with more people it would go better), meet through the group to do drafts on cockatrice (fun stuff), and hang out in the group chat. Mown and I are usually on there, and it's fun conversation.
Making the group look fancy and whatnot: I don't really see why I'd do that. I assume that the only people who will join it are NGA members, and we already have a site here to do all the looking fancy.
Making a game design forum: I could see doing that if we had a bunch of game designers here looking for their own board, or if we already had a board for game design and wanted to fill it with people, but we have neither.

So, what events would you guys like to do?

Cockatrice is the thing Wizards hates, right?

Can that be used to handle custom sets? Like could we playtest Starstill or CKY's Solphos block that way?

Cockatrice just reads its cards from an XML file, so handling custom sets should be no problem.

*Googles* Looks like someone did a thing to export MSE sets into Cockatrice's XML format.

With that mindset, not only do you limit the number of NGA people that will take interest in it, but you also force it to be something that only NGAers would join. Consider the possibility that a well organized and highly active Steam group bearing the NGA name and brand could attract people to the site that didnt know about it previously.

I just intended it to be a way for members of the site to meet up with other NGA members with similar interests to play steam games, cockatrice, or just chat. I'm not concerned with expanding it or getting it endorsed by the gobOs.

I kind of agree with Cato really. There's plenty of other groups that you can go play with random people, it would be better to keep this one family.

Just stick to the fan group for now since thats what the creator wants to do and such.

Later on if the site decides it wants to make an official group the Gobbos can do that and put up whatever rules and such they deem necessary.

Not like there can't be two groups... *shrug*
